John 19
28. After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst!''
29. Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.
30. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!'' And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
Been talking to a pastor friend of mine who is pretty ‘conservative’ in his views, but what he talks about is hindered by what he has ‘agreed to disagree’ agreements(?) and a pretty much liberal thinking congregation. Victims of the Tower of Babel Spin Machine? If the Church does not get it, how can the world get it.
Last week in talking to a liberal Bible teacher who voted Democrat for Florida Governor with the reasoning that Republicans don’t care about people. I responded with ‘since when does being prolife and making us responsible for our actions mean they don’t care about people’?
This week the same liberal guy was talking about how Trump is into big coal and how it pollutes the environment. I grew up in coal country with coal being the economic mainstay. I believe we have cleaned up the process and coal is a good source of carbon used in manufacturing, even in making medicines.
In Europe, coal being a fossil fuel, is bad news. And it seems like they like expensive bird killing windmills (oh, wooden shoes, don’t need cows that pollute with methane gas?), and natural gas (not bad) which they buy from Russia (ahah), from the Crimea, which Russia has a treaty to develop that resource, have many workers there to develop that area, and have a local government that wants to nationalize that resource.
If my father was a liberal, the hole he dug in the ground, would be our living quarters, and we would have to abort babies until windmill technology would allow us to build a heated house, to allow me to be born.
And of course in Syria they have a not so good government, backed by Russia, but is fighting an Islamic movement and freedom fighters(?), and the US who is trying to figure out who is the enemy and not start a bigger war. Me too. Next week’s topic with that liberal Bible teacher?
And of recent events concerning Afghanistan have only enabled (and equipped) the terrorist movement in that country and eventually the world.
And then we have the abortion issue or ‘too many people on the planet’ or to be honest, a woman’s right to choose whether they should have a baby, even if in progress. May be the real issue and ‘the’ driving force in our current turmoil.
Some states are considering a ‘Heartbeat Bill’ where an abortion can be performed up until heartbeat. A compromise that allows for rape and incest. Of course if some take advantage, shame on them.
Last year’s Advent theme seemed to be about Isaiah and the prophecy about Jesus and about how the lion will lie with the lamb, and we just have to be patient. And live (and die) with what we got?
Suggestion? If we look at the Bible for what it says and not what we would like it to say, we would be a lot better at fulfilling Christ’s Great Commission. When Jesus handed the ‘keys of the kingdom to Peter (the Rock, the Churches Confession of Christ, not Peter)’, he was saying, ‘here, you guys drive, but I will be with you’. Why are we here? Opting for Salvation is only the beginning of our journey.
Opting? Same old argument that has divided the Church for centuries. And agreeing to disagree seems like a good alternative. Yet Jesus told us to be united in Truth, not in error. Just too much left out when we agree to disagree. Of course both sides interject their viewpoints when they can, Very confusing to the flock. And to the culture.
If we do not reflect a ‘fear of God and His Commandments to the culture’, we have cultural chaos. Much like we have today, and in the past.
If we look at the 1920’s we seems the same warning signs of WWI and the Spanish Flu Pandemic, economic and cultural instability and lawlessness, followed by the Great Depression and another World War.
Condemning the world for its depravity and having a short sided view of when Christ’s Kingdom is (which has been since He left) only leaves us with failure in our future.
